Another Post That Has Absolutely Nothing To Do With TV, But Oh Well

Well tonight will DEFINITELY be a night to remember for the rest of my life. I had the absolute pleasure of going to an Ingrid Michaelson concert in Red Bank and honestly, I wish I could pop up at every single one of her shows. She was AWESOME!!! But I’m gonna start from the beginning so just hold on.

First of all, parking was a nightmare, but that was kinda expected cause she’s flippin amazing, and when someone’s that great well a lot of people are gonna notice. So I was forgiving for that. We found a parking spot not too far, oh yeah I went with my sisters, which I doubt I’ll do again, but that’s a story for another day. So we get inside and we were maybe a half hour early because I was just sure that the place would be packed and we’ll be struggling to get to our seats, but we get inside and it’s like empty. There was like 10 people there, and of course people were in the lobby and bathrooms and everywhere else, but they certainly weren’t in their seats. Well once it got closer to starting time the place just decided to flood with people. It was like I was the only one that didn’t get the memo of how uncool it is to be a little early, just in case. I also didn’t get the memo that the warning of no photography and big bags was basically a joke. Everyone had their phones and huge bags and nobody said anything, no major search party, so I’m like forget that I’m getting my camera too. I ran to my car to get my purse and of course I get back and it’s already started. Greg Laswell, who by the way is Ingrid’s husband (yeah I know, I didn’t know either. We’ll talk about that later), has already graced the stage. I don’t know his music but I do know his remake of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, which I am a fan of, unlike the woman on the plane (insider, you’re not gonna get it). He truly inspired me to be better. I used to write and it just seemed like too much work, but he told a story of how he wrote a song to his dad and you know what happened right? I was like that’s what I need to do. Ten minutes into the concert and I was ready to change my life. I already started thinking of lyrics, I so wish I was lying. He was just great. I spotify’d him before tonight and I liked his stuff and I understood from the 2 songs I listened to why he was her opening act, but his recorded work doesn’t do him justice. He truly takes the song to another level because he’s so intimate and so committed. It almost felt like a private recording session, like he was creating new materpieces. So Ingrid comes out to sing a song with him and he just casually drops a bomb that their married. I didn’t know she was married. I saw a video of a Valentine’s Day concert and she had a ring on her left hand but then she was asked if she had a Valentine and she was like yes so nonchalantly, so I figured she couldn’t married. Well I was wrong, what else is new? But back to Greg, yeah we’re on first name basis now, he was great, I really enjoyed him. Then the intro to Fire started and I was officially in Heaven, well not really because I’m still alive but you get what I’m saying.

The whole time I just kept thinking like someone must have heard me say all the songs I wanted to hear, written it down and passed it along to her. Other than ESP, that’s the only explanation I can come up with to explain how her show was so perfectly tailored for me. Songs that I knew for sure she wasn’t gonna do but still kept my fingers crossed cause maybe she would just do a bunch of old songs for the heck of it, which she ended up doing anyway, somehow magically ended up mingled into her set. It was just epic. I wish I could go back and apologize to the lady sitting next to me, I must have bumped into her from getting so into the songs at least 3 times. I tried sooo hard to contain myself, I promise, but a super fan can only do so much. I was inches away from standing up and doing the overhead clap to just about every song. I just have to laugh about it now, I’m sure the people were finding me pretty entertaining, especially the bored boyfriends who just came so they could get laid later. I was so into it, I was ready to run on stage and take the mike, just have a full on jam session. Good thing I have self-control. And who knew she was such a rockstar? Her performances were seriously hardcore, the way they came alive was just unbelievable. Just putting this one out there, I think I’m in love with her drummer. I have this thing I can’t really explain but yeah, I know what I feel so you don’t have to understand.

Anyway, I'm so very, very glad I went, this was an amazing experience that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life. As long as she keeps coming to Jersey, I’m gonna keep going to her shows. If not, I’ll just keep having concerts in my living room, where I can dance around in my undies and overhead clap to my soul’s desire.
